31,000 SF
The transformative interior design converts an abandoned 31,000 SF grocery store into a luxury fitness club. Considering La Costa’s beach community identity within Northern San Diego County, known for casual resort living; the design challenge involved blurring the urban, edgy brand with southern Californian resort lifestyle.
A playful use of light, crafted planar forms and warm materials create a signature blending of health, fitness and hospitality. The existing building’s wood roof was exposed and used as an organizational framework to lay out the range of programmatic uses. The interior integrates natural daylight, reuse of an existing uninhabited building, reduced energy and water consumption, recycled materials and low VOC emissive products.
